I’ve grown up in fandom, been a fangirl since before we learned Luke and Leia were twins. I’ve been in scores of fandoms over the years, have gone to cons, written fanfic, been involved in meta, etc. And one thing I learned quickly is that it gets ugly when opinions differ. It gets ugly FAST.
And you know, sometimes I just want to be happy. I hear from a lot of people that fandom is your safe place. Your life is hard so you fall into your book/show/movie/RPG as an escape, as a place to feel GOOD.
So I scraped up some money and artwork, found willing writers (people I think are funny and interesting, who were willing to work for FREE), and launched Hey, Don’t Judge Me in 2011 with the important point that: HDJM IS A PLACE OF JOY. Period. No infighting, no ship wars, no ugliness in the comments. You love it, or you leave it. It’s easy, right? Little X in that corner for people to click on if they don’t like it.
And we’ve been really successful, with maybe two or three jerks popping up here and there (and I monitor the comments like it’s my job. Because it is). Last night, Sam/Killerville, posted why she’s taking a hiatus in writing Hannibal recaps. I support her 100%. If she’s not happy, it defeats the whole purpose. Again, she does this for free. And Hannibal is HUGELY popular on HDJM, so it’s a lot of her time.
[Editor/Owner] This is rude, unproductive, and unacceptable on our site. We expect our readers to be better than this. Continue this negative, hateful behavior, and your IP will be blocked. We take this as a safe place to be happy very seriously.
This is a site where not only FANS feel safe and happy, but my WRITERS DO, TOO. Thank you for your continued support.
